Chapter-V

After that, Satyakaama – the son of Sibi, asked the sage Pippalaada this: “O Sir! If a man meditates and concentrates on the syllable OM till the end of his life (in this earth), does he attain that world (the heavens) ?”

To his question, the sage replied thus: “O satyakaama! What is referred to as the syllable OM is the same as the earthly Supreme and the heavenly Supreme. Hence that one who meditates on and understands the syllable OM, he attain one of the two.”

“Even if he meditates for only one maatra (one minimal unit of time), by that he attains clarity of thought and comes back to the earth very fast(in the next birth-to reach the heavens faster). The devathas of rig veda take him there. He attains greater heights by his performance of meditation with deep concentration and by observing celibacy.”

“If he continues meditation for two more maatras, he becomes one with Soma, the devatha of yajur veda. after his leaving the earth, he attains the World of Space . He is taken to the Soma Loka by the Yajur Veda devathas. He enjoys his dues in the Soma Loka and comes back to the earth again (in his next birth).”

“That one who meditates on the Supreme Being using the three-fold syllable OM, he becomes established in the rays of the Sun. He does not come back to the earth after his death. He attains immortality. He is cleansed of all his sins, in as much the same way that a snake would remove its skin off itself. He is taken to the Brahma Loka by the Sama Veda devathas. He gets to see the Supreme Being, who resides in all the human and other creatures, and who is distinct from the Hiranya Garbha, who manifests himself in various material (outer) forms.”

“The three syllables of OM, if chanted separately, will give pleasures and benefits that are material and worldly. However, if all the three are chanted together, the benefits that it would give is not just material (it is spiritual). If such chant is established in all the worldly activities, all the internal activities and in the thought, mind and the intellect, such wise one stands unaffected by anything else.”

“By regular chant of the Rig veda, one can attain this material world; by the Yajur Veda, the Space and by Sama Veda, the Brahma Loka, which is normally attained only by the selected few. But a wise one (who selects and chants and meditates on the three-fold syllable OM), he can attain all these worlds just by his regular chant and meditation of this syllable. In doing so, he will also attain the state of the Supreme Soul, which is devoid of aging, fear and diseases and which is full of peace.”
